BELMONT, N.C. — The 20th Annual Walk for AIDS will be held on April 13, 9:30 a.m.-12 p.m., to benefit the House of Mercy, 701 Mercy Dr.
Organizers are now accepting participants to trek along the three-mile track in the historic downtown area. Those who choose to walk can do so solo or in teams. The first 250 walkers raising $50 or more will receive a free Walk for AIDS T-shirt.
Registration will take place at the stone shelter on the Sisters of Mercy campus at 9:30 a.m., with the event following at 10 a.m. Music and a picnic lunch will follow on the House of Mercy grounds.
Goal for this year’s fundraiser is $32,000 to support the work of the House of Mercy, a residential facility for low-income men and women living with AIDS. To date, they have provided these services for more than 300 people since its founding in 1991.
Additionally, the Walk is seeking corporate sponsors, as well as 50 teams or individuals to raise $500 to support the House’s mission.
For those who are unable to participate in the Walk, contributions are being accepted by mail. Send them to House of Mercy, P.O. Box 808, Belmont, NC 28012. Or, contribute online with a credit card.
Prizes will be awarded to top individual fundraiser, top team fundraiser and best banner.
Those who wish to attend the picnic should RSVP via email to Marjorie Storch at
