GREENSBORO, N.C. — The Guilford Green Foundation has announced its 2014 GGF Leadership Awards, which will be presented at its 17th Annual Gala and Green Party on March 22, 7 p.m., at O.Henry Hotel, 624 Green Valley Rd.
Recipients are: Visionary Award, Lee Carter; Distinguished Service Award, The Quaintance Family (Dennis, Nancy, Kathleen and New Dennis); Distinguished Leadership Award, The Carignan-Parker Family (Shana, Megan, and Jax).
Carter has been actively involved in community activism and service and was involved in the beginning days of the foundation.
The Quaintance Family owns the O’Henry Hotel, as well as other establishments in the hospitality industry and champions green technologies.
The Carnigan-Parker Family challenged the state’s constitutional ban on same-sex marriage. They joined five other couples across the state when a lawsuit was filed in federal court by the ACLU. The ACLU has also filed a lawsuit on their behalf challenging the ban on second-parent adoption. Both cases are still pending.
The foundation said that attendees should get ready for a night of 1970s black-tie glam.
On March 14, the O.Henry Hotel issued a challenge grant to the foundation. It states that if 350 people attend the gala, the hotel will more than double their sponsorship of the event. This would provide for more fundraising investment dollars going back into the community. The challenge end on March 19 at 5 p.m.
Registration, cocktails, hors d’oeuvres and a silent auction will begin at 7 p.m., with dinner following at 8 p.m. Silent auction checkout is at 10 p.m. and the Green Party will be held from 10 p.m.-Midnight.
The hotel is offering a special rate to partygoers. Take $50 off room rate and the foundation will receive $50 with each booking. This includes a southern breakfast buffet on Sunday morning. Rooms are limited. Call 336-854-2000 to reserve.
Tickets are still available and can be purchased online.
