CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The LGBT Democrats of Mecklenburg County will hold their next general body meeting this Thursday, June 12, 7 p.m., at the LGBT Community Center of Charlotte, 2508 N. Davidson St.
The new county caucus will adopt its bylaws and make plans for an annual fundraiser. The meeting and membership in the group is open to all registered Democrats.
The local caucus of the statewide LGBT Democrats of North Carolina began forming last fall. Organizer Janice Covington called the first meeting in January, where about a dozen people, including some local elected officials, attended.
In March, the local caucus elected its first slate of officers, including President Gary Leake, who has recent experience in local politics, serving as Charlotte City Councilmember Al Austin’s campaign manager in 2013.
