CHARLOTTE — Doubting Thomas, one of the region’s most popular bands, will play a one night gig at Hartigan’s, 601 S. Cedar St., on Nov, 6.
The indie rock group was originally formed in the late ’80s. They cross genres from rock, pop, folk and funk. Founding member is Gina Stewart who plays guitar. Joining her is co-founder Brenda Gambill, a songwriter and poet, whose violin, harmonica and percussion skills, along with her soaring vocals, help add to the showmanship of the band. Bill Carroll, a bassist, vocalist and songwriter, has had his soundtracks used by the Voice of America radio network. Matthew Davenport, drummer, completes the set.
Over the years, they have been recognized by Charlotte’s Best magazine as Best Band and Most Deserving of National Attention by Creative Loafing. Their first album, “Blue Angel,” featured guests Peter Buck and Bill Berry of R.E.M. With “Two,” their second release, they were joined by Indigo Girls’ Emily Saliers on the “Tiny Lights” and “How High” tracks. “Who Dies And Made You King,” their newest 13-song release, is being hailed as their best work to date.
Past and present members include Stewart, Gambill, Carrol, Matthew Davenport, Bryan Williams, Irwin “Virgil” Bostian, Mark McColl, Tim Hill, Michael Corrigan, Kris Krull and Michael Lannagan.
They will be on stage at Atlanta Pride this year.
