Charlotte's problem is that the community is STILL not visible. How can we expect to gain anything if we have a community center that moved out of a prime area to be hidden in a virtually unknown section of town? When people will go to Atlanta and DC to to Pride but won't be caught dead in their own city's event? When there is still so much divisiveness within our own community.

This was the topic of a story a few weeks back in Creative Loafing. It's a fact that Charlotte doesn't know the definition of 'progressive'. This is one of the most homophobic damn cities I have ever been to. Those of us in the gay community here definitely know why Charlotte is not even on the radar! The gay scene here sucks and is not even supported by itself, much less this sorry city. All the dance clubs shut down, and the one remaining only plays gangster rap and is the laughing stock of night clubs in other major cities. Sad thing is, the gay people here don't seem to give a damn. This is a very important article that should alert people in Charlotte that something needs to be addressed. Sadly and unfortunately it will go over most people’s heads with them making obscene statements like 'how great the gay scene is in Charlotte'. Unbelieveable!!! As usual, clueless and missing the whole point while usually redirecting the blame on something else.

[...] Calling this an oversight would probably an understatement. Seems Charlotte is a little slow with the joining those of us in 21st century. Wonderful if this isssue will be raised before [...]

If the LGBT community wants to see real change it must advocate for it in a real and decisive manner. it is time we unite and become political. We must become a strong voting block and we must vote with our walletts and pocketbooks in hand. I am all for parades and marches, but the real work is done on the political level. If you are not registered to vote, do so. then connect with groups and organizations that lobby and advocate for equality. put your money and your time where your mouth is and we might have a shot at achieving real change.
