  • I moved to Charlotte from urban New England (Boston/ Providence, RI) having been told by promoters and realtors that this was the next Atlanta…the next emerging, modern,New South city. Nothing could be further from the truth. This city is financially controlled by conservative, self-serving banks that have contributed to the destruction of our nation’s economy. It has been run by homophobic and subtly bigoted right-wing (mostly Republican) politicians. And it has an oppressive, religious-right infrastructure dominated by the Born-Again church industry that has decided the gay and lesbian community is its enemy. To fully understand the underlying ultra-conservative brain-washing that dominates this city, just move to a real big city. You will be shocked. Dale Read
