The police spend money and set up operations to target people engaged in lawful and nonviolent behavior.

Are there no harmful, violent, or dangerous criminals in NC? Is it the case that there are no unsolved crimes, and no areas where children are not safe when they play. Are there no unlit parking lights when women walk in fear to their cars, where the police do not patrol?

The most shameful element of this post is not the rudeness of an elected commissioner. The most foul part of this post is that the police in CM would rather use their authority to harass adults engaged in private liaisons than to provide meaningful policing for the city. But I suppose I understand. Actual criminals are dangerous, so the police it is better to let dangerous criminals prey on the unarmed while the police target the harmless. It may harm the citizens but it keeps the police safer.

If we want to stop James we need to lobby heavily in Raleigh to remove CAN or reword it to only include sex with animals (currently it says “with man or beast”). The men charged with soliciting CAN in these sting operations cannot be charged with soliciting prostitution because the current statutory definition of prostitution only pertains to vaginal intercourse between men and women.

So CAN is used for solicitation of anything else and as a “catch all” by law enforcement. The prostitution definition needs to be expanded and actually list the “sexual acts for hire” that it outlaws.

Sadly there are few if any straight men arrested for Solicitation of CAN (SOL-CAN) in the bars uptown when they are “trolling for sex with straight women” on any given night.

Bill James is NOT going to change. You cannot discuss anything with this man – period.

If we want this to stop WE need to get off our rear ends and work for it. No one is going to do this for us.

When the laws are changed the wind will be knocked out of James’ sails.

The fact that he refuses to admit that only highlights his harmful intent.
