ASHEVILLE — Theatrical performance activist Peterson Toscano has kicked off his 2010 Winter/Spring Tour with a stop at Warren Wilson College from Feb. 1-18. He is serving as their Activist in Residence facilitating workshops, classes, performances and community activism.
The school’s Spiritual Life Director Leah McCullough, in an attempt to “deepen various dialogues on campus and beyond,” has organized a full schedule of activities to address a number of issues and concerns.
Toscano is a queer Quaker who was involved in the ex-gay movement, but survived. He has penned a number of works on his experience. He is also co-founder of Beyond Ex-Gay, a resource for ex-gay survivors.
On Feb. 3 he presented his “Transfigurations: Transgressing Gender in the Bible” at Kittredge Theatre. “Homo No Mo?!? Orientation, Gender and the Ex-Gay Movement” will be the fare at the Canon building fro 7:30-9:30 p.m. A final performance of “Doin’ Time with Peterson Toscano” will be held on Feb. 15 at 8 p.m.
