Take a chance
As humans we have a propensity to place constraints on ourselves by saying, “I can’t.” At one time I had the same view as Wayne Besen (“ManHunt: The law of supply and demand,” Aug. 23, 2008), until I quit thinking in a box. I subsequently discovered someone I believed I “couldn’t” date, as someone who I’d do anything for. Our relationship lasted an extended period of time. Sites like Manhunt have driven the homosexual community from community activities, bookstores and coffee houses to the internet to look for perspective partners. Yet, I believe if guys opened their eyes, they might discover someone that interests them standing in line at the grocery store. Take a chance and look beyond a “deal-breaking habit” and you might find a guy worth being with.
— Brandon Lee Caudle, Federal Correctional Complex, Petersburg, Va., letter
