Mobile Mexican Consulate draws protest

Concord’s Independent Tribune and WSOC-TV report on a planned protest in front of Concord High School this weekend.

The Mexican Consulate has planned to set up a mobile operation at the school on Saturday, Sept. 25. The mobile office will assist Mexican citizens in obtaining Mexican passports, visa renewals, property and other legal matters and more. Mexican officials say the mobile office is being set up to assist their citizens who cannot make it to permanent Consular offices in Raleigh (the next closest is in Atlanta).

Members of NCFIRE and ALIPAC, two anti-immigration groups, plan on protesting the event. They say the school and school board should never have allowed the Consulate to host the event there and say it will futher illegal immigration activity. The Mexican Consulate’s activities are not illegal and are routine diplomatic and immigration matters.

According to the Southern Poverty Law Center, ALIPAC is associated with and supported by the Federation for American Immigration Reform, which has been designated a hate group by SPLC’s Intelligence Project. ALIPAC is also associated with several Minutemen groups.

Update (Sept. 24, 2010, 12:25 p.m.): William Gheen of ALIPAC wrote the following as a comment in response to this post. Although we are not changing the content of our post above, we are publishing this comment in the interest of fairness and objectivity:

ALIPAC is NOT supported in any way, shape, or form by the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR). Please provide documentation for this false claim or remove it. Sorry you got duped by the SPLC. Not your fault really, they are the ones that printed the false info to start with.

Also, please change “Anti immigrant” to anti-illegal immigration as ALIPAC has many immigrant supporters and we actively welcome and recruit legal immigrants to our organization.

Also, please add “dispense matricula consular” cards to your list of things the Mexican Consul will be doing at Concord High since that is the main point of contention.

  2. Make’em Work For Their Dream & Take Back Their Country Too!!! September 24, 2010 at 3:16 pm

A Plan For A Real “American Dream Act” Bill & Counter Attack

First bring back our soldiers from this Afghanistan war that is costly and going nowhere. Middle Eastern and Asians love to see us waste money and go broke fighting for freedom when they don’t really want it. This is their main weapon and we keep falling into their trap. Then we need to regroup military troops and military force to invade/overthrow Mexico’s government turning it into a U.S territory.
The new land will be used as an industrial/business commerce zone. U.S citizens will be able to by property and have a dual citizenship between U.S and Mexico. Mexico will keep its current currency and there current government will be demoted to local municipal law enforcement as long as they surrender to the U.S.
The U.S will be in full control of all laws, local law enforcement, and military control. The path to dual citizenship will require the illegal immigrants living in the U.S to serve in the U.S military for teen years… Along with completing the invasion/overthrow of Mexican government to expand U.S lands, business, and revive our economy. For Mexico citizen requesting to come to the U.S temporary worker programs and legal paths to citizenship & residence will be granted to those who qualify.
This action is to liberate Mexico from its corrupt government that is destroying it self and the U.S slowly. It is also a test for them to redeem them selves for us to see, how much heart they have, how patriotic they are, and much they love this country including us, laws in all.

    Pass It On!!!

  3. A few other key points:

There is no legal definition of the term “hate group,” which is why even the FBI doesn’t use it. The term is subjective and meaningless.

The SPLC uses the smear “hate group” so that it can denigrate those who do not share its ideology without accusing them of any actual crimes.

The SPLC is a private fund-raising organization. It has no authority, legal, moral or otherwise, to designate anyone as anything. The SPCA has no more right to designate “hate groups” than does the SPCA.

What’s more, NOT ONE of the SPLC’s top ten, highest paid executives is a minority, much less an Hispanic and certainly not an immigrant.

According to the SPLC’s hometown newspaper, the Montgomery Advertiser, despite being located LITERALLY in the backyard of Dr. Martin Luther King’s home church, the SPLC has NEVER hired a person of color to a highly paid position of power.

    THESE are your “experts”??
