Another Evening w/ Carolina's Best: The Wendy Hayes Quartet Comments
With passion and skill, Wendy Hayes has been delivering smart and arresting jazz to the mountains of Western NC and in the process has become one of the most popular artists in the region. She consistently receives accolades for her energetic and entertaining renditions of cool, bebop, and post bop standards.
Wendy is quick to point out that her success is directly attributable to the fine trio of musicians with whom she shares the stage. Guitarist Andy Page, bassist Zack Page, and drummer Rick Dilling are top notch musicians, each of whom has vast and impressive performance credits. "I never think of this as 'Wendy Hayes and the band'", says Hayes. "We're an ensemble and we share the spotlight. It's not all about me even though I am the one standing out in front."
Their new CD, currently in production, is taking the group in a different direction. "This time I will stretch out more and the approach will show more diversity" explains Hayes. "We have everything from swing to bebop to original music..and no crooning this time. It's just jazz", she says with a wink. "It's very exciting."
Her debut album was released December 24, 2010 and is entitled I REMEMBER YOU. Backed by the superb trio and special guest artist Jim Calabrese, Wendy croons swing tunes and ballads from the Great American Songbook.
