Hike slated to raise funds

MORGANTON — ALFA’s annual Hike for Hope to benefit those affected by HIV/AIDS will be held on April 16 at Catawba Meadows Park along the Catawba River Greenway.

Last year it raised over $20,000 and event hosts hope to top that with $35,000 this year.

All funds raised during this event stay in Alexander, Alleghany, Ashe, Burke, Caldwell, Catawba, Lincoln, Watauga and Wilkes Counties.

Youth group gets non-profit status

HICKORY — OUTRight Youth of Catawba Valley, an LGBT youth organization, has received official notification of its 501(c)(3) status approval.

LGBT teens in Catawba County who are seeking a supportive, social space should contact Vice President Eddie Beard at bearded47@charter.net.
