‘Weekend of Art’ to light up NoDa

If NASCAR and Speed Street aren’t your thing and you’re looking for something fun to do in the near-term, steer clear of downtown next week and be sure to head to NoDa this weekend.

A veritable cornucopia of events lights up Charlotte’s Arts District starting tomorrow.

The All Arts Market, NoDa Gallery Crawl, Pimp My Rack and FemmeFest will offer Charlotteans an opportunity to indulge in a variety of art mediums.

NoDaRioty’s All Arts Market will be held on Thursday, May 19, 6-10 p.m. and on the same times Friday, May 20 at The Neighborhood Theatre. A variety of original artwork including paintings, prints, photography, sculpture, jewelry, leather-work, stationary, and more will be featured during the two-day gala.

Admission is free and parking is available on site. The May 2011 All Arts Market is supported, in part, with funding from the Arts & Science Council in order to provide maximum exposure for the 70-80 participating artists and to draw the largest possible crowd, thus promoting awareness and support of local art in Charlotte. Experience a collection of galleries, shops and boutiques in the lively streets of NoDa and enjoy a night of art and wine during NoDa’s Gallery Crawl on Friday, May 20 from 6pm to 9:30pm. Admission and street parking are free, and additional parking is offered for $3 in the Neighborhood Theater lot. Gallery Crawls are held the first and third Friday of every month in downtown NoDa. Hosted by Greenification, Pimp My Rack is a public art exhibition that will feature six local artists painting bike racks live, as part of the new NoDA custom-designed and -built bike racks, made possible with funds from the Neighborhood Energy Challenge Grant. Stop by for a free beer from event sponsor New Belgium Brewery while you watch artists in action. Register to win a custom-designed New Belgium Brewery bicycle, and vote on your favorite bike rack.
