Charlotte: Splash for Pride
CHARLOTTE — Want to escape the heat for a fun-filled day? Then saunter on over to the U.S. National Whitewater Center, 5000 Whitewater Center Pkwy., on July 30, 9 a.m.-dusk, for Gay Splash Day, an event of Pride Charlotte.
Attendees are encouraged to wear a red T-shirt to show everyone that they are Pride Charlotte supporters.
One Night Stand will bring its sound to the splish-splash event at the River’s Edge Bar & Grill from 2-6 p.m. Stop on by for food, drinks and music.
Park admission is free, though parking is $5. AllSport and Canopy Tour Passes, along with raft reservations, are available for special discounted prices via Pride Charlotte’s Whitewater Center group page located at store.usnwc.org/ecom2/GrpLogin.aspx, user name, pridechar and password, Whitewater (case sensitive).

Western: ALFA schedules training
HICKORY, N.C. — ALFA will hold a training session for community health educators on July 26-27, 6-8 p.m. at Burke County United Way, 301 E. Meeting St., Morganton.
Participants in the Community Health Educator (CHE) Program must complete the total six hour training in order to obtain the Red Cross certification. The CHE program is an advanced volunteer experience that enables ALFA to spread its message of HIV prevention education to the community. Attendees of this training learn everything they need to know to conduct effective HIV/AIDS educational presentations using the American Red Cross curriculum. This training is ideal for individuals interested in education, public speaking or in becoming an HIV tester.
