CHARLOTTE — US Airways has announced that the deadline for applying for its Community Foundation grants is quickly approaching.

Non-profit 501(c)3 organizations may apply for up to $250,000 up until April 1. Only the Queen City is available in the list of cities up for consideration. Others include Phoenix, Ariz., Philadelphia, Penn., and Washington, D.C. Awards will be distributed in June 2012.

Community Foundation grants are awarded to formal campaigns related to constructing or remodeling a current or new building for non-profit organizations whose missions support one of three focus areas: arts, education or human services. Within these areas of focus, the Foundation specifically funds organizations that provide the following:

  • Programs that improve and expand educational opportunities that result in academic achievement in literacy, science, technology, engineering or math;
  • Programs that provide basic human needs such as food, clothing and shelter to help encourage, sustain and develop economic self-reliance; and
  • Access to significant cultural resources that broaden our communities’ artistic excellence by partnering with major arts and culture organization.
