It’s hot in the city and in drag!

Drag Rag

Well, kids — while I write this dittie, it’s hot as hell in the Queen City. Here we are, having celebrated July 4th and I needed some independence from the humidity, by golly! No thinking of drag for me until November now, okay? Welcome to my party, where the guest of honor is a good pageant or some good drag. Or a fierce queen! And there are a few of those still around, thank goodness.

I come to you bringing news from all around. Why not start with congratulating Lindsay Starr, the new Miss Legends, and her runner-up, Emory Starr. Poison is the newest winner of the Drag Race contest that they have there at Legends and I hear she is quite the little fishy Latina queen. I forgot to mention weeks ago that on my last trip to Winston-Salem, I ran into my little sis Marina LaFaverz, and it was so good to catch up with her, especially since she’s doing so well and just being happy!

I’d like to offer an apology to two dear sisters who were recently left out of a story in the drag edition that we recently had about different local girls who’d won national contests in the “Big 4” systems. Two former Misses Continental PLUS from NC would include Amaya, also a former Miss NC U.S.ofA., now making her home in Cary, and Tajma Hall, who lived in Raleigh before moving on to Chicago, IL.

We have results from the Miss NC EOY contest which took place not long ago. Malayia Chanel Iman won in what I’m going to call a big marshmallow gown (the category was creative, after all) and her runners-up were (in order) Macaria Rage, Phil Voila, Onyx, Eureka O’Hara and Chyna. Good luck to the girls going on to compete at the national competition in Louisville in several weeks.

I’l use this space to brag about a flawless birthday party I attended recently — Carmen Banks’ 30th at the Levine Museum of the New South. They gave the White Party a run for the money, honey, and I was so glad to be on that guest list. The food was crazy — sushi bar, candy/sweets bar, any kind of hors d’oeuvres you could imagine and Carmen’s famous bacon bar (as in chocolate-dipped bacon). Then Burger King starts selling a sundae by the same flavor! And, let’s not forget the show afterwards, consisting of Angela Lopez, Amber Rachelle St. James and Felicia Monet. If any can top this one this year, please make sure to invite me so I can see it, okay?

I’ve gotten to see Pandora Boxx at Spirit Square, part of the Queen’s FabFest by Queen City Theater Company. They had Coco Peru, too. Then Buff Faye did her Oz sing-a-long on Saturday night! Buff and her girls at the Hartigan’s Sunday brunch recently honored my sponsored son Gerardo in Central America with the proceeds from a great time, with a show featuring Buff herself, Miley Virus, Kiana Lane, Brionna Davis, former Miss NCA Detra Panucci, Starla DaVinci and current Miss NCA Jessica Raynes Starr. It was the first time I saw Jessica do her Reba or Dolly and I must say, that girl is so damned talented!

Speaking of Jessica, she has been to several prelims recently, like Miss Charlotte which Jade Paris won with RU Takiya Kelly Storm and Miss Greenville which Nellie Bottoms won and RU Felicia Monet. I was on hand to judge Miss Charlotte with the likes of NC America royalty — Detra Panucci, former Miss Everything Kerri Nichols, former Miss Charlotte Buffy DeMareau, and celebrating her 20th anniversary as Miss Charlotte and Scorpio, Renee Rollins who was presented a plaque for said achievement that night. Our Miss NC U.S.ofA. Jamie Monroe, also a former, was in the show and was absolutely flawless in my humble opinion. Miss NC Jessica Raynes Starr had a lovely line for her crown number to end the night, and she was joined in the show by Brittany O’Bryan, Felicia Monet, and the lady relinquishing her title, Victoria Victors.

Still trying to round up more tea on Miss Drag U. that Leather Fete did not too long ago, but I do know our beloved Stone Parque did a turnabout and won as Pebbles Parque, and I really do hate I missed that.

Since Continental is quickly approaching, I’ll mention more prelim winners or their runners-up to compete in Chicago on Labor Day Monday, like Miss Pacific Coast Elena Perez, Dreamgirl Mercedes Black, Lake Erie Georgia Bea Cummings, Puerto Rico Yessa Yoyovish, San Juan the Queen Bee Ho, Latina NY Chary Lady Fox and Miss Caribbean Elishaly D’Witshes. Don’t call me asking about these spellings or names, okay?

I’d been meaning forever to get tea from the SC Unlimited contests held at the Rainbow In (yes, one “n”) and finally got caught up with my sis London Dior who tells me she won with Robyn Cassadine as her RU and Cierra Nicole won the At Large with Malayia Chanel Iman as her runner-up. London was also proud to tell me she found out from rankings that she was 5th in Interview overall at Miss U.S.ofA. last month — a personal best for her. Congrats, little sis! Speaking of Unlimited, hats off to a new Mr. and Miss At-Large — Taylor Knight-Addams and Danielle Revlon. Their runners-up were Stone Parque and Cierra Nicole. I went up to see the contest in Hickory and got to catch up with so many old friends visiting like Jessica Raye, Mr. U.S.ofA. at Large Felix Correa, former Miss Continental PLUS and U.S.ofA. at Large Tajma Hall, as well as Hickory folks like Martini Newton and Tom, Paul, Jeffro Bear, Connie Conover, Reina Michaels Parque and Shana Nicole. I’m sure I’ve forgotten someone, and my apologies in advance.

In closing, I’ll report on the most recent national contest that I know about — Alana Steele’s give-up as the All-American Goddess. Miss NC Asia O’Hara won and her RUs were Necole Luv Dupree, Tommie Ross, Gigi Monroe and Madison Eriks (who also won Most Beautiful). Other finalists included Brittany Moore, Amy DeMilo, France Stratton, The Lady Janet, Aria Cassadine, Mia Campbell Cassadine, and Claire DeShay. Best Non-Finalist was The Legendary Misty Knight. My thanks to my former roomie the Lady Bennelle and Tajma Hall for making sure I knew as soon as it happened! : :
