CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The LGBT Community Center of Charlotte has launched a new website at lgbtcharlotte.org. The new website includes much more information about the group’s programs and activities, including updates on brand-new programming and activities. The site was designed by Kristian Wedolowski.
“Just as the Center is changing, we really felt that the website needed a total overhaul,” said Glenn Griffin, the center’s director. “There was a lot of discussion during board meetings about how the website should look. We definitely want it to be extremely useful to the Charlotte LGBT Community and anyone visiting the area. It is much easier to use, has useful information on it, and is much more appealing to the eye. There will be a lot more information added to the website over the next month, and it will always be changing to reflect news and information.”
One of the biggest changes visitors might notice is the new web address. The change from gaycharlotte.com to lgbtcharlotte.org was meant to offer a more inclusive face for the group. Griffin said his biggest goal was to make the center all-inclusive when he started working there in May.
“No one should be left out or feel they are not a part,” he said.
The change to the website’s address was months in the making. The topic was addressed at a panel of young adult leaders held at the center in February.
“It was brought to my attention by several people that they felt that gaycharlotte.com didn’t include the lesbian, bisexual, or transgender community in it,” Griffin said. “So, when the Board was discussing the new website, I really made it a point that we needed to change it to lgbtcharlotte.org. I’m proud of our gaycharotte.com address and it was extremely groundbreaking 10 years ago, but we need to change and be all inclusive; lgbtcharlotte.org does this.”
Overall, Griffin said he’s pleased with the new website.
“I love how user friendly the new website is,” he said. “People can go to the website and find all of the information that they are looking for right at their fingertips.” : :
