It’s no great secret that gay bars are a bit of an endangered species these days. But some great gay and lesbian bars still exist, including right here in North Carolina.

The online magazine SheWired has just published their list of “10 Great Remaining Lesbian Bars Where We All Need to Hang Out” and Charlotte’s own L4 Lounge made the cut at number four.

This is what they had to say about L4 Lounge:

L4 stands for “love for everyone,” and they mean it. Everyone is welcome here, although the crowd is still primarily women. They have hookah, dancing, drag shows, and the occasional jello wrestling tournament. It is also worth noting that they serve chicken and waffles.

Other Southern lesbian bars to make the list include: Sue Ellen’s in Dallas, Lipstick Lounge in Nashville, My Sister’s Room in Atlanta.

Have you been to any of the bars on the list? If so, what did you think of them? Know of one that should have made the list but didn’t? Let us know in the comments.
