HICKORY, N.C. — OUTright Youth has recently launched a new website and rebranded itself.
The new logo was designed by the organization’s youth. The website was created by Carmen Eckard of Eckard Photographic and utilizes an easy interface that is mobile friendly.
Also, a number of new programs were developed to meet the needs of those served: transgender peer support group, parents and family support, coalition of affirming faith leaders, anyone can be an ally and meals that matter. Contact the organization to learn more.
Suicide prevention conference announced
ASHEVILLE, N.C. — The Conference on LGBTQ Suicide Risk and Prevention will be held on Aug. 15, 7:30 a.m.-5 p.m., at the Renaissance Asheville Hotel, 31 Woodfin St.
The day-long Research to Real Life event, sponsored by the North Carolina Chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, seeks to raise awareness about LGBT suicide risk, bring research findings to the attention of professionals and the public and explore strategies for LGBT suicide prevention in local communities. The agenda includes plenary and breakout sessions that feature national experts on LGBT mental health and suicide risk and will be focused on making mental health, suicide prevention and education an LGBT community priority.
During the day, participants will be able to engage in breakout sessions, hear from keynote speakers and learn more from a plenary panel on lived experience.
The conference is open to anyone who wants to learn more about LGBT-specific issues regarding suicide.
