Night one of the 2016 Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia was full of highlights. It is a historic convention, to nominate the first woman to one of the two major political parties.

Sen. Bernie Sanders called on his supporters to vote for Hillary Clinton, his opponent for the nomination, to a mixed response from the audience.

“We need leadership which brings our people together and makes us stronger,” Sanders said. “Not leadership which insults Latinos and Mexicans, insults Muslims and women, African Americans and veterans, and seeks to divide us up.

“By these measures, any objective observer will conclude that based on her ideas and her leadership, Hillary Clinton must become the next President of the United States.”

First Lady Michelle Obama delivered a passionate and affecting speech calling for Clinton to become the next President of the United States, asking what kind of role model we want for our children.

“In this election…there is only one person who I believe is qualified to be President of the United States,” Obama said.

Watch Elizabeth Warren’s Full Speech at the 2016 DNC

Sen. Elizabeth Warren compared Trump and Clinton, describing Trump as someone who cares only for himself and is a cheater who skipped out on debts.

She described Clinton as someone who fights for others and is “tough” and “tenacious.” She delivered her populace message, which typically plays well with Sanders supporters but in the contentious climate of this year’s DNC she was faced with chants of, “We trusted you” mixed in with the cheers and applause.

Watch Cory Booker Full Speech at the 2016 DNC

Sen. Cory Booker called for unity and reminded everyone watching that we are stronger as a country when we come together, saying we are a great country not because we started out perfect but because each generation has done the hard work to move us forward.

“Our founders, in their genius, in this, the oldest constitutional democracy, put forth on this earth the idea that all are created equal; that we all have inalienable rights,” Booker said. “And upon this faithful foundation we built a great nation, and today, no matter who you are – rich or poor, Asian or white, man or woman, gay or straight, any religion or none at all – you are entitled to the full rights and responsibilities of citizenship.”
