Advocates call for hate crime investigation into transgender teen’s brutal murder

Four have been charged in connection with the killing

Editor’s note: Ally Steinfeld is believed to be at least the 21st transgender person murdered in the United States this year alone. Two of those individuals were in Charlotte: Derricka Banner, 26, who was shot and killed while in a parked car, and Sherrell Faulkner, 46, who died from injuries sustained in an attack in late 2016.

Human rights advocates are asking Missouri prosecutors to investigate the grisly death of transgender teen Ally Steinfeld after the Sheriff investigating the murder dismissed the notion that it could be a hate crime.
