Come to town

GREENSBORO — A faith and fairness town hall meeting will be held on Mar. 18 at 6 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church of Greensboro, 617 N. Elm St., Fisher Park and Greene St. entrance.

Reception is slated from 5-6 p.m.

This meeting is conducted to provide a space for thoughtful conversation about LGBT people, inclusion, justice and religion. An objective is to find strength and tools for advocacy rooted in faith traditions.

Keynote speaker is Rev. Dr. Miguel De La Torre, professor of social ethics, Iliff School of Theology. Panelists slated are Rabbi Fred Guttman, Temple Emanuel; The Rev. Susan Parker, Wake Forest Baptist Church; and The Rev. Dr. Arnetta Beverly, St. Matthews United Methodist Church.

The event will be moderated by Harry Knox, director of religion and faith programs at the Human Rights Campaign Foundation.

Conference date set

GREENSBORO — The Transgender Communications and Wellness Conference will be held on May 22 at the University of North Carolina-Greensboro’s Elliott University Center.

Keynote speaker is Dr. Richard Adler, co-editor of “Voice and Communication Therapy for the Transgender/Transsexual Client: A Comprehensive Guide.”

The keynote spot will be shared with Mara Keisling, executive director of the National Center for Transgender Equality, based out of Washington, D.C.

Greensboro Area Health and Education Center will offer .6 CEU (six contact hours) for all-day attendance.

Registration is $95.

The conference is supported by grants from The Adam Foundation, Guilford Green Foundation and Replacements, Ltd.
