In South Carolina, especially within the LGBT community, there are so many hidden talents. From spoken word to song, the LGBT community is saturated with talented people. Unfortunately, there are few outlets for individuals to showcase their talent. Enter Bang Dome Entertainment, which opened its doors for business in August 2004.
Bang Dome Entertainment is the mastermind of Young Doe, an entertainer and promoter. Young Doe says music is her passion. She cannot imagine doing anything else. It’s like the blood running through her veins. Therefore, it was only natural for her to open the doors of opportunity for those within the LGBT community.
“I’m the one who opened the door for other LGBT artists,” she says. “I was the first promoter to showcase local lesbian artists at my events. Now it has become a trend.”
A trend it is. Bang Dome Entertainment has become so popular in South Carolina that Young Doe has made her promotional activity a weekly event called Seductive Saturdays. Its grand opening event will be Saturday, June 26 at the Fountain Bleu nightclub. The purpose of Seductive Saturdays is to provide a venue for starving artists. Often time it is difficult for new or unfamiliar artists to obtain the exposure they need in the entertainment industry. Seductive Saturdays is her vehicle to provide anyone with talent an opportunity to showcase his or her abilities. Therefore, “it’s important for people to spread the word. We have nowhere to go to enjoy ourselves. We have to come together and show everyone…that we are not to be looked down on,” she says.”
Young Doe hopes the venue will provide a place for socialization for the LBGT community and be an instrument that will break barriers hindering our community.
“We want people to travel long distances to visit our city and state,” she says, noting that everyone is welcome – drag performers, dancers, singers, lip-sync, etc.
Performance is based on a first-come, first-serve bases. One of the feature acts for her first event is Ace Reign, a hip-hop artist and songwriter from Washington, D.C.
Young Doe is not just about business and making money. She also sees the value in giving back to the community. This is her second year volunteering her services to help make South Carolina Black Pride (SCBP) an annual success. She will be performing at SCBP Community Expo at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center, Saturday, June 26. Also during Pride weekend, Bang Dome Entertainment will host several activities. On Friday, June 25, Bang Dome Entertainment will host its second annual White Party featuring South Carolina’s first all-lesbian ball. Performers will include, Kin4life (N.Y.), Siya (N.Y.), Hometeam (Ga.), Dj P2K (Neb.), DJ Handz (S.C.), Tha Turnouts (Neb.) and many others.
