We’d like to thank each of you for bearing with us this afternoon and evening while qnotes staff performed some much needed maintenance on goqnotes.com. We appreciate your patience as we work to make your viewing experience at goqnotes.com more fulfilling.

For you techies, an explanation:

We’ve noticed — as have some readers — that our website was performing very slowly. Reports of slow load times for readers and our staff members’ experiences with a lagging back-end had begun to get worse over the past week or so, though from what we hear some readers had been experiencing slow load times for quite some time.

We’ve changed caching services and hope this new service will speed things along, at least for now.

In the process of performing maintenance and zeroing in on the problem, we also learned that our website uses several older, deprecated function codes which allow the site to pull together various bits of information (e.g. recently published stories, lists of most popular and/or most commented stories, section lists, etc.).

Luckily, we’d been planning on a slight redesign of the site. In the next month or so you’ll notice a new site design. We’ll try to keep things familiar but hope the newer site will make your reading and viewing experience that much better.

In the meantime, please feel free to contact us if you ever experience any problems with our website (i.e. broken links, unavailable pages, slow loading times, etc.). Feel free to email us at editor@goqnotes.com.
