From all of us at Equality North Carolina, Happy LGBTQ History Month! With Election Day looming and our nation experiencing unimaginable crisis, it can feel strange to celebrate anything right now.
As we head into the thick heat of summer, Equality North Carolina is inviting our communities all across the state to join us in observation of Black August — a month-long period of remembrance about the history of anti-Black, violent, systematic oppression in this country and the giants and revolutionaries who laid the foundation for the work of our movements today.
It’s hard to overemphasize the importance of the elections this year taking place across our state. From the entire North Carolina General Assembly to the Governor’s Mansion to your local Board of Education, the number of races on this year’s ballot is nothing short of massive. Not to mention our congressional and presidential contests.
