The Human Rights Campaign (HRC) celebrates 25 years of holding a fundraiser in the Carolinas on Feb. 22. The event, now called the North Carolina Dinner & Silent Auction, was started during a pivotal year for the organization.
The HKonJ (Historic Thousands on Jones Street) will host its largest assembly of LGBTQ people and allies from throughout the state and across the nation for its Feb. 8 People’s Assembly March and Rally in Raleigh. The theme is 1000 STRONG.
“This is a first and should be interesting,” wrote openly gay Charlotte City Councilmember LaWana Mayfield, who is challenging him for his Senate seat.
The group cited an anti-LGBTQ history as the reason for the decision.
Four North Carolina legislators have introduced a bill stating that the U.S. Supreme Court decision that legalized marriage equality nationally “is null and void in the State of North Carolina.” The bill, HB 780, seeks to reinstate Amendment One in North Carolina.
