As we rounded the corner into the new year, many of us were hopeful that 2021 would bring about some sort of relief from the chaos and hardship caused by the infamous 2020. Unfortunately for the LGBTQ community, however, the feeling of optimism was short-lived, as not even two weeks into the new year, LGBTQ protections were erased with a simple stroke of a pen.
“Carolina Family Connections is in need of foster parents to meet the demands of children in need of foster home care due to abuse and/or neglect in the areas of Mecklenburg and surrounding counties,” says Clontz. “We especially are in need of families who would open their hearts and homes to sibling groups and school-aged children of all races.”
The Trump Administration’s Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) gave an okay on Jan. 23 to allow federally-funded child welfare agencies in South Carolina to refuse services on the basis of religion. The decision came in response to a request made by South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster last year.
