On Aug. 27 a federal court in Georgia ordered the Trump Administration to recognize the U.S. citizenship since birth of Simone Mize-Gregg, the two-year-old daughter of a married same-sex couple, and to issue her a U.S. passport.
A federal court in Maryland heard arguments on June 5 in a case brought by Lambda Legal and Immigration Equality and pro bono counsel Morgan Lewis on behalf of a married gay couple and their daughter Kessem Kiviti, whom the Trump administration continues to refuse to recognize as a U.S. citizen since birth, even though both of her parents are U.S. citizens.
These cases represent a broad spectrum of individuals who are pushing “the system” in hopes of securing the rights and privileges afforded to their straight counterparts. Each are championed by Lambda Legal and others.
