AIDS Quilt Goes Virtual, Represents All 50 States

World AIDS Day Event Honors COVID-19 Victims, Drs. Fauci and Ho

This year, instead of hitting the road, the AIDS Memorial Quilt — the more than 48,000 handmade panels honoring over 100,000 lives lost to AIDS that brought attention to and spurred action to address the pandemic back in the late 1980s — will have virtual showcases in all 50 states and U.S. territories due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Taking part in 2020 World AIDS Day observances world-wide have been severely effected by the global novel coronavirus pandemic. Unlike previous years, the number of live events have been brought to an almost complete halt.

National AIDS Memorial welcomes first panels of Quilt home

Beyond the Carolinas

On Dec. 1, more than 1,500 people gathered at the National AIDS Memorial to welcome home the first group of panels of the AIDS Memorial Quilt (the Quilt) back to San Francisco and honor leaders who helped bring together the voices of the epidemic with “profound courage, unrelenting hope and unity of humankind,” organizers shared.
