NC Queer Youth Power will hold its Queernival 2017 on Oct. 28, Magnolias & Duct Tape will present “Peculiar — A Hurricane Relief Drag Benefit” to be held on Oct. 15, North Carolina State University now has a forum, the Social Justice Cohort, designed for student sharing and discussion on issues such as racism, sexism, transphobia and similar topics and he Herald Sun recently wrote a feature on two longtime partners who are working to create a safety net for LGBTQ elders as they reach retirement.

Cynthia* is a loving parent, a decorated military veteran and a transgender woman. Born and raised as Mike*, she knew at age eight that she was born into the wrong body. Seeing no way to be her true self, Cynthia lived out the first several decades of her life as a man, becoming a father to three children and taking on many traditionally male roles. She eventually enlisted in the military where she served multiple tours of duty and received a Purple Heart after being wounded in combat.

Triangle: ‘Chasing Capri,’ Spano Reading, Gospel Talent Show, SAGE 4th

“Chasing Capri,” a documentary film by southern filmmaker Caleb Holland, was released and featured a Carolina transgender teen at the center of the storyline, Mark Spano will read from his award-winning novel “Midland Club” on June 25, Gospel Drag and Talent Show will be held on June 23 and SAGE Raleigh will hold its annual 4th of July cookout and potluck on July 4.
