Gale Harrold as Brian Kinney on the Showtime hit series ‘Queer as Folk.’

MTV’s Logo network and AfterElton.com have released their list of the top 25 gay television characters of all time.

Unfortunately, the majority of the characters were from relatively recent productions.
“The final results of our survey tilted heavily toward the most recent representations,” reads AfterElton’s introduction to the list. “Yes, these characters are fresher in viewer’s minds than are characters from older shows. However, the more recent characters are also much richer and more fully-developed than were the Matt Fieldings (“Melrose Place”) or Steven Carringtons (“Dynasty”) of 20 years ago.”

Minorities and women were also underrepresented, as most of the characters were male.
The top spot in the list went to “Queer as Folk” character Brian Kinney, followed by “Will and Grace” character Jack McFarland. “Queer as Folk” character Justin Taylor came in third.
Some of the other characters appearing on the list include number four spot Kevin Walker of “Brothers and Sisters,” number six spot Luke Snyder of “As the World Turns” and number 15 spot Ricky Vasquez of “My So Called Life.”
